August 14 – 21

Some serious Dean River veterans returned to their favorite place on earth.  After getting familiar with the re-arranged upper river, the whole group soon found some fish to satisfy even high expectations after hearing epic 2010 season stories upon arrival.

And if the upper river still logistics and hike-a-thon didn’t slow enthusiasm, the nearby (30km away) forest fire didn’t stop them either! Strong outflow winds brought thick smoke down-river and provided an almost apocalyptic scene, with rising red suns and setting orange ones… [note: the fire never threatened our lodge or the areas we fish]

The lower river fishing picked up with more steelhead and finally some much anticipated cohos showing up as well, so many new steelhead that some 8 fish shifts were had, with smilin’ Ray going 3/5 on Cut-bank and Scott rounding the day with two back to back dandy cohos!

Water conditions continued to clear and fall as evening temperatures started dropping into the mid 40′s Fahrenheit, providing some great dry-fly fishing for those patient enough to stick to it.
