The sixth group of the season included the Canadian contingent as well as several river veterans including our longest returning guest, Mr. Greg Vidal, enjoying his 23rd visit to the Dean.
Joining Greg this trip was returning Steelheader Chad Jaques of Trout Bum 2 in Park City and Larry Hills of Emmetsburg Maryland plus the Canuck crew of Jason Tonelli of Pacific Angler Vancouver, Charles Chang, Colin Rothery and Monte’ Hyssop.
A previous few days’ cooling weather brought a continually dropping river, hitting the lowest flow rate of the season, but by 10 year averages, the Dean is still high. Clarity was excellent, running somewhere between 5-6ft.
The inter-tidal fishing we enjoyed the weeks before almost completely disappeared but was made up by off the charts fishing at Cutbank, Bill’s and Ross Island. ‘Remarko Reef’, the island near the launch, was on fire as well. Top fish pushed the high teens.
The upper river fishing continued to improve as expected with almost as many fish up there as below the falls later in the week. Numerous fish were raised to dries and floating line presentations, over the overall count of fish landed for the week was…[so high that your editor thought it best to leave it out – unbelievable].
